Main goals of Pulp bleaching can be listed below.
Paper and Pulp industry also consumes large quantities of water. Off late there are stringent controls on AOX content in effluents of paper mill. Large amounts of AOX are formed due to the usage of extremely large quantities of chlorine that is used in the bleaching process. Paper mills are now making conscious measures of reducing the AOX content by considering alternate technologies such as ozone. There are already many mills that have converted or in the process of conversion to ECF technology. The next stage would be TCF technology. Use of ozone brings about cost saving in chemical use without disturbing the physical properties of pulp such as brightness, beatabilty & strength.
The most used bleaching sequence is: OZEDD - OZPZP - ZPZP - ZEP - OPZEP - OZEP
